What sort of people are the Heathens in central NC?

Heathens in this region are a diverse bunch with a wide range of interests and hobbies. This page is a place for those who wish to introduce themselves. If you would like to contribute a bio to this page, please contact the webmaster.

Dan Writes:
Halloooo! I am a Heathen with diverse interests including: Scandinavian and Celtic mythology, Neolithic prehistory, Saami shamanism, seidhr & spaecraft, poetry, oil painting, Runes, tafl, hand-spinning, home-brewing, and run-on sentences. I discovered the Runes about the same time that Danny Moses and I first met in 1999 while I was working at an art store and Danny came in looking for "paint that looks like blood". *grin* Thereafter we developed a 6-hour Runes workshop together, entitled Yggrunar: Runes of the Ecstatic One. This workshop was given twice as part of Carolina Spirit Quest events in 2001 and 2003. Although I'm not dedicated to a particular deity, I feel quite close to Odin, Frey, and Thor - and am fascinated by Old Uppsala, where the three gods appear to have been worshipped together. I live in Hillsborough with my wife, Cynthia (who is dedicated to a deity in yet another "religion with homework" - namely: Sumerian), my daughter Jess, two psychotic cats, and a profusion of plants.

Phil Writes:
Hi, I'm Phil and I live in Raleigh. I work at IBM and keep a large number of computers and other high-tech devices at home as a hobby.

Falkenna Writes:
I call myself a 'synchretist' and blend, under the umbrella of 'neo-paganism' which best reflects my understandings and practices, my experiences with several traditions: Heathenism, Tibetan Buddhism, shamanism and gnosticism. I first sensed the old ways as a child, on my land in the forests and waters of remote northern Michigan, where I awakened to the natural world and its gifts. I have lived in various diverse cultures, including France, Nepal and Russia, in which I encountered humbling examples of humanity, tolerance and mystical experience. I have studied herbalism for a decade, and am passionate about holistic health, languages, comparative religion and spirituality, dance, expanding consciousness and the realms of plants and animals. I regularly attend gatherings to celebrate Spirit, our Mother Earth and goddess thealogy, and have dedicated my life to a partnership with my husband and our shared stewardship of RiverBend, the land where we live and host rituals and shamanic drum journeys. My path is that of Compassion; my life and lifestyle are devoted to its authentic expression.

Danny Writes:
I can sum up my biography in two words:
  1. Oưinn
  2. Musician
Or I can sum it up in 24 runes:
The Elder Futhark

Ana Writes:
Hail from Ana the webmaster. My background is a long story; I have been a practising Heathen only since late 2003, but have been fascinated by the Runes and by Northern European history for many years. My other interests include cooking and baking from scratch, organic gardening, and all kinds of arts and crafts (none of which I'm an expert at, but I have fun) from sewing to painting to wood burning. While originally from California, I have been in the Triangle for several years and currently live in Hillsborough and teach math at a local community college. You can net-stalk me further by visiting my personal homepage at http://www.analeia.net.
